Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard has said that the defence of Manchester United needs to be praised for their impressive displays in the last few matches. Ever since getting thumped at Old Trafford by Manchester City, Manchester United have gone on a run of clean sheets.
Even though Manchester United number one goalkeeper David De Gea has been responsible for most of them, Anders Lindegaard played his part in the clean sheet against Sunderland. It also marked the 25th anniversary for Sir Alex Ferguson. Speaking after the match, Anders Lindegaard said that he was extremely pleased to be part of the first team on this special day.
He also said that Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand need to be praised a lot for their outstanding displays ever since returning from injury. Manchester United have sorely missed the duo this season due to a variety of reasons. They have clearly been the best centre back partnership for Manchester United in the last few years. Their return to the first-team has coincided with the run of clean sheets, and Anders Lindegaard had nothing but praise for the duo.
He said, “Obviously Vida and Rio know each other well and they complement each other very well. The two of them were amazing today. It was very enjoyable being a goalkeeper behind them.”
He also paid a great tribute to the manager Sir Alex Ferguson by saying that having a stand renamed it something that does not happen always. The quality and credibility that Sir Alex Ferguson has given to Manchester United is one of the main reasons for him achieving so much in the game. Anders Lindegaard has not always been preferred as the first choice goalkeeper, but he has certainly delivered the results when called upon.
