Manchester United has defeated Stoke City in a Premier League match played at Old Trafford on Saturday. Manchester United won the match by a big margin of 4-2. This was the sixth victory for United in the ongoing Premier League.
With the help of this victory, United has maintained its no. 2 status in the points table. Sir Alex Ferguson’s team currently has 18 points in 8 matches. On the other hand, after this defeat, Stoke City has now moved down to no. 13 in the points table with 8 points in 8 matches. This was the second defeat for Stoke City in the competition.
Manchester United came into the match with an aggressive approach, but, it was Stoke which took the lead in the 11th minute of the match courtesy of an own goal by Wayne Rooney.
The Red Devils managed to equalize the scores in the 27th minute when Rooney latched on a wonderful angular cross from Robin Van Persie and headed the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
Manchester United took the lead of 2-1 just before the half time break. Rooney passed the ball to Valencia who got rid of Marc Wilson and gave the ball to Robin Van Persie who was at a distance of 6 yards from the goal post. The former Arsenal skipper swivelled and played a fantastic shot to put the ball into the far corner of the net.
Just after the half time break, the score became 3-1 when Danny Welbeck found the back of the net with a superb header. The match became a bit interesting when Stoke managed to reduce the lead to 3-2 in the 59th minute with the goal of Michael Kightly.
Stoke City again got trailed by two goals when Wayne Rooney capitalized on the pass of Danny Welbeck and dabbed the ball into the net in the 65th minute of the match. It was an extremely ordinary effort by the defenders of Stoke. Rooney got an easy opportunity and he doesn’t miss out on those kinds of opportunities.
There were no more goals scored in the match in the remaining 25 minutes and Stoke City lost the match.
Manchester United’s next match will be a Champions League encounter against Braga at Old Trafford on Tuesday.
