Anders Lindegaard tweets about RvP’s wonder goal
Manchester United striker Robin van Persie was singled out for massive praise following his displays for The Netherlands in their 5-1 demolition of world champions Spain in their opening Group B match in the World Cup.
A van Persie inspired Dutch team tore the world champions apart, exacting revenge for their narrow 1-0 defeat in the finals last time as Spain secured their first world title. Van Persie scored a spectacular diving header in the dying minutes of the first half to level the scores after Spain had taken the lead from the penalty spot in the middle of the half, with the goal already being hailed as one of the greatest World Cup goals of all time.
And Anders Lindegaard, a team mate of van Persie at Manchester United can breathe a sigh of relief that he plays with the Dutchman in the same team and not against him.
The Danish international goalkeeper posted a message on his official Twitter account where he thanked his luck that he is the Dutchman’s team mate and not his opposition.
Iker Casillas in the Spanish goal, considered one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time, could only watch as the ball flew over his head as RvP dived in to head the ball into the back of the net.
And according to Anders Lindegaard, he felt sorry for the Spanish number one, adding that there was nothing he could do about the goal – it was that much special.
Anders Lindegaard, who recently tied the knot with his long term girlfriend, is not a part of the World Cup after Denmark failed to qualify and is currently vacationing with his new wife. His future is still up in smoke though, with media reports claiming that he is set to leave Manchester United this summer.
